At the end of your stay

If you're leaving UCLouvain and Belgium, there are a number of administrative and practical steps you need to take.

Here are the main steps to take before you leave:

1. Unsubscribe from the municipality

Before you leave Belgium for good, you must take the necessary steps to notify your departure to the local authorities, so that you can obtain the certificates you need to travel and complete your registration formalities in Belgium. This can be done up to 8 days before departure.

2. Close your bank account

Before closing your bank account, make sure that all transactions have been completed (end of stock market or blocked account). Ask your bank about the steps to be taken. 

3. Close your housing contract

Before leaving Belgium, it is essential to take the necessary steps to terminate your housing contract. The notice period is between one and three months. Contact your landlord to hand over the keys, and carry out an inventory of fixtures on departure.  

4. Cancel all subscriptions 

Before you leave Belgium for good, it's important to properly cancel all the contracts you've taken out during your stay: telephone subscription, internet, insurance, streaming services, transport, etc.

A well-prepared termination avoids additional costs or administrative difficulties after your departure.
