An appeal is the means by which a person contests a decision taken against him or her and asks a higher authority to reverse it.
At UCLouvain, administrative and academic decisions are taken in accordance with legal provisions, particularly the 7 November 2013 French Community of Belgium Decree defining the higher education landscape and the academic organisation of education (the ‘Landscape Decree’, www.uclouvain.be/set), and the UCLouvain Academic Regulations and Procedures (https://uclouvain.be/fr/decouvrir/rgee.html).
All students enrolled at the university are presumed to have read these UCLouvain internal regulations and are obliged to respect them.

- What is an appeal?
An appeal is the means by which a person contests a decision taken against him or her and asks a higher authority to reverse it.
- In what situations can I appeal to the vice-rector for student affairs?
Situations are defined by UCLouvain’s Academic Regulations and Procedures (see ‘Types of appeals and requests’). An appeal can only be submitted after all other internal means of recourse have been exhausted.
- What is the deadline for submitting an appeal?
An appeal must be submitted within a time frame specified by the aforementioned regulations. Late submissions will not be considered. See 'Time frame and deadline'
- How do I submit an appeal?
A specific procedure applies. Improperly filed appeals will not be considered. See 'Appeal/request submission procedure'.
- What documents must I include?
It depends on the nature of the appeal, whose content must allow for proper examination and analysis. The appeal file must include all requested documents, and no documents can be added after submission unless by the vice-rector’s express request. See 'File content'.
- How will I be informed of the decision?
The decision is communicated exclusively to the filer of the appeal, either by registered post or by email, once the review and investigation process has been completed. It is transmitted in accordance with the procedures set out in the regulations. No information is disclosed during the course of the procedure.
