Bridging modules leading to a master’s course

uclouvain |

Are you a (prospective) graduate of a French Community of Belgium haute école, école supérieure des arts or école de promotion sociale, and are you looking to deepen your skills and knowledge in a specific discipline or area within your field?

Bridging modules allow students to be admitted to a course, by bridging the gap between it and their prior course.

A bridging module adds additional coursework (max. 60 credits) designed to provide the necessary prerequisites to pursue a master’s course.

Available master’s courses

The master’s courses for which you are eligible are determined by a French Community of Belgium decree (“arrêté Passerelles”), which also specifies the number of additional credits (up to 60) or the supplementary module to be added to your programme depending on your initial qualification (a so-called “type court” bachelor’s degree from a French Community haute école, école supérieure des arts or école de promotion sociale).

In the case of the master’s course in labour studies (and only for this master’s), it is possible to reduce the additional coursework by sitting an exam to earn credits.

Pour connaître l'ensemble des masters UCLouvain (60 ou 120 crédits) accessibles à partir d'une formation de 1er cycle de type court, choisissez l'intitulé de votre diplôme initial dans la liste ci-dessous :

The course catalogue shows you what the module involves:

  1. Choose the master’s course you wish to pursue
  2. Click “Admission requirements” > “Supplementary module”
  3. You will see a list of modules that will be added to your master’s course.

If there is no bridging module between your prior qualification and your chosen master’s course, contact the faculty organising the course in question to find out whether your application can be considered by the admissions panel. The panel will inform you, if applicable, of any additional requirements and the steps you need to take.

Furthermore, if no bridging module is available but you have experience relevant to the course’s field, you may be eligible for admission through the Accreditation of Prior Experiential Learning (VAE) scheme. Please contact the VAE coordinator at the faculty organising the master’s course.
