Article 45. – Without prejudice to articles 53 to 58, and subject to individual circumstances, the Faculty may exceptionally grant a student permission to take a reduced annual programme. This permission shall be set out in an agreement between the student and the Faculty, usually drawn up when he or she enrols. By way of exception, permission to take a reduced programme may be granted during the academic year for serious social or medical reasons.
A reduced programme of study may be granted on professional, academic, social or medical grounds only and evidence will be required. Applications may be made by students referred to in Chapter 5 Page 23 of 71of this Part and by students who anticipate difficulties in reconciling fulltime education with extra-curricular activities related to their student status that make demands on at least half their study time.

Students granted permission to take a reduced programme at the time of enrolment shall pay the tuition fees proportionate to the number of credits in their annual programme.
Who can apply for a reduction:
- Students with a specific profile, known as PEPS students;
- Students who foresee difficulties in reconciling a full-time academic schedule with extracurricular activities, in line with their student status and requiring at least part-time work.
Which specific and duly justified reasons can be considered:
- Professional: if a professional activity is conducted at the same time
- Academic: if two programs are followed simultaneously;
- Social: exceptionnal situation (toddler, high level sport, ...)
- Medical
When applying for a reduction, it is advisable to include any supporting documents that will help us to better understand the student’s situation.
How to request a reduction:
- Inform the enrolment service SIC while completing your enrolment at UCLouvain
- Introduce the request to the ESL with motivational letter to Laetitia Dablemont
- If the request is accepted, ESL will inform SIC with the amount of credits in the PAE
- The tuition fee will be reduced propotionally to the number of credits in the PAE
After this stage, no modification in the course of the academic year will be accepted.
When:
- The reduced annual program request should be introduced in september of each year.
Good to know:
- The aim of the reduction is a program spread facility not a financial facility.
- The reduction cannot be granted to final-year students who have less than 60 credits to sit.
