Selection Process

First step: information and registration:

Register on Moodle to receive all the information on the selection process.

Please get informed about the type of exchange you would like to do (Erasmus Belgica, Erasmus or Mercator) and inquire about the specific conditions of the exchange destinations (additional language requirements, Grade Point Average, etc.).

A provisional list of exchange destinations is posted on Moodle at the end of November. The final list is posted on Moodle by the end of January before the application deadline.

Second step : application file

Your file will include:

  • Your application form containing your personal data

  • Your official English certificate (a PDF copy)

  • An Excel table containing the selected destinations sorted by preference.

Your completed application file should be posted within the required deadline on Moodle (see Selection Calendar). No late submissions will be tolerated.

Third step : allocation of destinations

At LSM, we strive to offer an exchange destination to a maximum of students. The allocation of destinations is therefore based on the popularity of the exchange destination, the ranking of the student and the number of exchange slots available in each destination. The ranking of the student reflects the academic results of the November and January sessions from your first year of Master’s and the scores of the English certificate. To access the selection, you must meet the admission requirements (academic, linguistic and administrative).

As far as the allocation of destinations is concerned, students are asked to rank the exchange destinations in three categories: 1) top destinations, 2) second choice destinations and 3) third choice destinations. Without taking the ranking of the student into account, we allocate exchange destinations based on the popularity of the destination, beginning by the less chosen destination (chosen by one student only) until the top chosen destination (chosen by several students). The ranking of the student helps to allocate the destinations when several students have chosen the same destination.

The way you rank the exchange destinations has to reflect your real expectations and it is your responsibility to get information about your preferred destinations. The allocation of destinations is announced at the end of February. The exchange destination you will be allocated to cannot be changed afterwards.

Useful tips:

Choose as many exchange destinations as possible. This will increase your chances to go on exchange.

Students who went abroad in the past have filled in evaluation forms about their exchange and their host university. These forms provide plenty of useful information about courses, the organization of the stay, the living costs, etc.  Factsheets of partner universities can be found on Moodle (Forum EU & Forum NON-EU).

You will regularly receive information about the selection process: register on Moodle to be aware of all the deadlines and important instructions.
