DD at LSM - How the Double Degree Programme Works

2 Degrees in 2 Years, how does it work?

The Double Degree (DD) programme is a specialised, intensive 2-year Master's track that allows students to earn two official Master's degrees by dividing their studies between LSM (UCLouvain) and a partner institution.

IMPORTANT: To get these 2 Master's degrees, students must follow the respective study programme structures, administrative procedures, and requirements of each university.

Double Registration: As you follow two programmes, a double registration is required (first at the Home University, then at the Host University).

To graduate and receive the Master's degree from LSM (UCLouvain), students must earn a minimum of 120 credits spread over the two years (approximately 60 credits per year), including:

 

20 credits of Master's thesis
5 credits of Seminars
30 credits of LSM professional focus courses
25 credits of one LSM Major
40 credits of master courses (i.e. Majors, elective courses, core courses).

 

The degree awarded will be the Master 120 credits in Management, professional focus OR the Master 120 credits in Business Engineering, professional focus, depending on your background and the specific agreement with the Partner University.

 

Please note that the Double Degree LSM/Instituto Superior Tecnico is available only for students in Business Engineering and in Industrial Engineering and Management.

 

LSM: Course and Exam Registrations, Schedules, Rules

 

Course and Exam Registration: As a DD student, you must respect the LSM administrative procedures. Check the detailed LSM Administrative/Academic Calendar

 

Course and Exam Schedule: The course schedule is published about 2 months before the start of the term. The exam schedule is published a few weeks before the start of the exam session.

To graduate and receive the Master's degree from the Partner University, students must earn all mandatory credits requested by that institution within the 2 years.

DD students are only required to write one single Master's thesis for both degrees.

 

AspectRequirement
SupervisionThe student must find two professors: one supervisor (from either LSM or the partner) and one reader (from the other university).
ProcedureFollow the guidelines, methodology, deadlines, and calendar of the supervisor's university.
LanguageThe thesis must be written entirely in English.
DefenceA mandatory oral defence is required (usually via videoconference) in the presence of both the supervisor and the reader. This defence is compulsory for the LSM degree, even if the partner university does not organise one.

Tuition Fees 

 

Tuition Fees must be paid only at the Home University for the entire duration of the studies.

The Host University may require a payment of administrative fees (e.g., UCLouvain administrative fees for 2023-2024 amounted to 66 euros).

 

Mobility grant

 

For students with UCLouvain as their home university, mobility grants are financial support, not an entitlement, and will not cover all expenses. Check more information here

 

European Mobility: Supported by the Erasmus+ grant.

 

Mobility within Belgium: Supported by the Erasmus Belgica grant.

 

Students may introduce a request for additional financial support to the UCLouvain Social Service (based on family income). Students are eligible even if they previously received a mobility grant during their Bachelor's studies.

 

For students with UCLouvain as a host university, please take information about eventual grants alongside your home university.
