LSFB : the Sign Language of French-speaking Belgium

Since 2013, the ILV, the Language Institute of the UCLouvain, has been offering various courses in sign language to UCLouvain Students wishing to discover the language specific to the deaf community in French-speaking Belgium. These courses are taught in small groups of up to 15 students!

Three 60-hour courses per year (two hours per week) are offered at the ILV :

LSIGN1101 ♦ Objective A1 (Discovery Level) :

  • Together with LSIGN1102, LSIGN1101 forms a coherent whole for the first level !

LSIGN1102 ♦ Objective A2 (Survival Level) is open to students who have successfully completed LSIGN1101. 

  • Together, LSIGN1101 and LSIGN1102 form a coherent whole for the first level !

LSIGN1201 ♦ Objective B1 (intermediate level) is open to students who have successfully completed LSIGN1102.

Enrolment for LSIGN1101, LSIGN1102 or LSIGN1201 must be done exclusively via the ASP, the annual student programme ! 

This must be done using the paper form 'Request to add sign language courses to the ASP'. This form is also required for UCLouvain staff members before registering with the ILV Secretariat.

The completed form must be submitted in person to the professor 
during the first LSFB classes ! 
No action will be taken on forms sent by email.  

No enrolment :

  • outside the annual programme *
  • for first-year Bachelor's students (11BA)
  • after Week 4 of Q1 (S04) !
