Learning French through action: group projects to experience the language

For over 15 years, the French Department at ILV has reimagined language learning by immersing students in collective, real-world experiences that go far beyond the classroom. Inspired by the action-oriented approach of the CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, 2001), we invite international students to become active participants in their own learning through hands-on, inspiring projects.

Unique Experiences to Practice French

Every year, students take part in activities such as:

  • Performing on stage in multilingual shows,
  • Meeting authors or engaging with children in school settings,
  • Actively participating in conferences or workshops led by native speakers,
  • Getting involved in civic movements, combining language learning with social impact.

More Than Learning: A Transformation

Over the years, one conviction has grown stronger: learning through collective projects is about much more than practicing a language. It offers so much more:
An active role: Students become the driving force behind public events, building confidence and fluency.
Key skills: Decentering (seeing the world from new perspectives), creativity, and emotional intelligence develop naturally.
A human experience: These projects create connections, break down cultural barriers, and turn language into a tool for meaningful interaction.

Because learning a language is also about living it, sharing it, and making it your own.
