Access to civil engineering courses is conditional on passing a special entrance exam organised by the Louvain School of Engineering. For more information, please consult the dedicated page.
Each year an undergraduate entrance exam is organised at UCLouvain in accordance with legal provisions. Passing this exam allows admission to an undergraduate course in all higher education institutions in the French-speaking Community of Belgium.
For admission to courses in civil engineering or medicine and dentistry, applicants must also pass a specific admission or entrance exam.
The certificate obtained after passing the undergraduate entrance exam is not equivalent to the CESS certificate of upper secondary education but is a bridge to higher education. You are advised to check with the institution where you intend to enrol which certificate it accepts.
You should also be aware that this certificate is not recognised by the National Employment Office (ONEm) as equivalent to a secondary education diploma entitling you to register as a jobseeker. You may be eligible for jobseeker allowances if you have passed the undergraduate entrance exam (even if you have not completed your undergraduate course), provided that you have previously spent at least six years (at whatever level) in an educational establishment organised, subsidised or recognised by the French-speaking, Flemish-speaking or German-speaking Community of Belgium.
More detailed information on the organisation of the 2024-2025 exams (programme, registration, timetable, regulations) will be available in due time.
